    Product details

Dermabond Advanced™ Topical Skin Adhesive is a sterile, liquid skin glue designed for fast, secure, and flexible wound closure. This advanced 0.7 mL applicator contains a proprietary 2-octyl cyanoacrylate formula that provides a higher viscosity than traditional adhesives, allowing for precise control on both wide and fine-line applications. Engineered to hold skin edges together for surgical incisions and trauma-induced lacerations, it can be used alone for superficial wounds or in conjunction with deep dermal sutures to enhance overall closure strength.

Upon application, the adhesive polymerizes in approximately 90 seconds, creating a microbial barrier that offers 99% protection in vitro for 72 hours against organisms commonly associated with surgical site infections (SSIs), including MRSA, MRSE, and E. coli. This waterproof barrier eliminates the need for uncomfortable suture or staple removal, as the film naturally sloughs off within 5 to 10 days as the skin heals.

    Key Features & Benefits

    Feature

    Clinical Benefit

    Practitioner/User Benefit

    Unique 2-Octyl Cyanoacrylate Formula

Provides high-strength, flexible bonding that maintains wound integrity during the critical 48-hour healing period.

Proven Strength: Adds 75% more strength to the wound closure when used in addition to sutures compared to sutures alone.

    99% Microbial Barrier (72 Hours)

Protects the wound from external contaminants and inhibits growth of bacteria like MRSA, MRSE, and E. coli.

Reduced SSI Risk: Clinically demonstrated to provide a secure barrier against common pathogens responsible for infections.

    Precision & Dome Dual-Tip Applicator

Allows for versatile application across different wound types, from fine linear incisions to wider lacerations.

Enhanced Control: Ergonomic pen-style design ensures steady delivery and minimizes waste or accidental runoff.

    Fast 90-Second Polymerization

Rapidly forms a dry, non-tacky film that allows for quicker procedure completion and improved patient throughput.

Efficiency: Significantly reduces procedure time (avg. 3.6 mins) compared to traditional suturing (avg. 12.4 mins).

    Waterproof & Self-Sloughing

Creates a flexible seal that resists moisture, allowing patients to shower shortly after the procedure.

Patient Satisfaction: Eliminates the need for a follow-up visit for suture removal and improves overall cosmetic results.

    When To Use Dermabond Advanced

Topical closure of easily approximated skin edges from surgical incisions.

Closure of simple, thoroughly cleansed, trauma-induced lacerations.

    Punctures from minimally invasive surgeries.

As a supplement to deep dermal stitches to increase tensile strength and provide a microbial barrier.

    Usage Application and Care Guidelines

Preparation: Ensure the wound is thoroughly cleansed, debrided, and hemostasis is achieved.

Dry the Site: Pat the wound completely dry with sterile gauze. (Moisture can accelerate polymerization prematurely).

Activate Applicator: Hold the applicator tip-down away from the patient. Crush the internal glass ampoule by applying pressure to the midpoint of the bulb.

Saturate Tip: Gently squeeze the bulb to moisten the internal filter with the adhesive, then release pressure to draw the liquid back.

Approximate Edges: Use sterile forceps or gloved fingers to hold the skin edges together closely.

Apply Adhesive: Apply one continuous, thin layer along the wound using a light brushing motion. Do not press hard, as this may force the wound edges apart and allow glue into the wound.

Hold & Dry: Maintain manual approximation of the edges for 60 seconds. Full polymerization is reached when the adhesive is no longer tacky (usually within 90 seconds).

    Contraindications & Warnings

Infections: Do not use on wounds with evidence of active infection, gangrene, or pressure ulcers (decubitus etiology).

Mucosal Surfaces: Not for use on mucosal surfaces or mucocutaneous junctions (e.g., lips, oral cavity).

High-Tension Areas: Avoid use across joints (knuckles, elbows, knees) unless the area is immobilized, as constant movement can cause the bond to fail.

Sensitivities: Contraindicated for patients with a known hypersensitivity to cyanoacrylate, formaldehyde, or benzalkonium chloride.

Topical Meds: Do not apply ointments or liquid medications over the adhesive, as these can weaken the film and cause the wound to reopen.

Eye Safety: Do not apply to the eye. If contact occurs, flush immediately with saline or water.
